OUR PHYSICIANS



Highly trained and experienced physicians will provide your care. Your oncologist has extensive training in Internal Medicine, Oncology and Hematology. In addition to these specialized skills, you and your family will benefit from your physician’s genuine compassion and understanding of your concerns. Sanford Cancer Center Hematology/Oncology was one of ten honoree recipients of the 2010 ASCO Clinical Trials Participating Award.

Michael D. Keppen, M.D.



Dr. Michael Keppen graduated from the University of South Dakota School of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in hematology/oncology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is a Clinical Professor, Department of Medicine, University of South Dakota School of Medicine. Dr. Keppen joined Sioux Valley Clinic (formerly Central Plains Clinic) in 1990. He is a research member of North Central Cancer Treatment Group (NCCTG), Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) and the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project.



 
 
Kamran Darabi, M.D.



Kamran Darabi, MD joined Sanford Cancer Center Hematology & Oncology in 2008. Dr. Darabi specializes in hematology, oncology and transfusion medicine. He graduated from medical school from the University of Cologne Medical School in Cologne, Germany. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA. He completed fellowships in Transfusion Medicine and Blood Banking at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA and in Hematology and Medical Oncology at New York Medical College. Dr. Darabi is board certified in internal medicine, hematology and medical oncology.

He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Society of Hematology and the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Darabi has participated in multiple research projects and has been published in a variety of journals including the Journal of Clinical Oncology and the American Journal of Clinical Pathology.




 
 
Miroslaw A. Mazurczak, M.D.



Dr. Mirsoslaw Mazurczak joined Sanford Cancer Center - Oncology Clinic in 2002. He graduated from the Medical Academy in Wroclaw, Poland, completed his residency in internal medicine at Easton Hospital, Easton, PA and his hematology/oncology fellowship at SUNY at Stony Brook, NY. He completed bone marrow transplant training at H.L. Moffit Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. Dr. Mazurczak is a research member of North Central Cancer Treatment Group (NCCTG), Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) and the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP).



 



  

Elie G. Dib, M.D., F.A.C.P.



Dr Dib graduated from the Lebanese University with an MD degree in 1999. He completed his training in Internal Medicine at the University of Staten Island, NY and his Fellowship training in Hematology / Oncology at the University of Rochester, NY. He worked very closely with several of the international leaders in the Hematology Oncology field at the University of Rochester where he participated in both clinical and laboratory research. He has had the gratifying opportunity of publishing in prestigious journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Leukemia Research, and Emerging Infectious Diseases, a journal published by the CDC. He has presented his research work at several national meetings and has been awarded the first place research Stanley Wallace Memorial Award at the American College of Physicians annual meeting, NY Chapter in 2003. He also serves as an active medical reviewer for many journals including the Annals of Internal Medicine.

He is a member of the: American College of Physicians, American Association of Cancer Research, American Society of Clinical Oncology, and American Society of Hematology. Dr. Dib is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

He is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at Sanford School of Medicine of the University of South Dakota.

Sana Jeffreys, M.D.



Sana Jeffreys, MD was born and raised in London, England. After receiving her BSc (Honors) and Bachelor in Dental Surgery (BDS) from the University of Manchester, England she received her medical degree from the St. Georges' University School of Medicine, Grenada, West Indies.

She completed her internship training in the combined program of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Michigan State University/Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Michigan and residency in the combined program of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics and also her fellowship training in the combined program of Hematology and Oncology at Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Dr. Jeffreys is currently a research member of North Central Cancer Treatment Group (NCCTG), Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG), the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), American Society of Hematology (ASH), American College of Physicians (ACP) and American Society of Internal Medicine. She is board certified in hematology and oncology.

She is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at Sanford School of Medicine of the University of South Dakota.

  

Susan Halbritter, CNP



Susan Halbritter graduated from South Dakota State University with a Masters of Science Degree in Nursing in 1993. She is a Certified Adult Nurse Practitioner as designated by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is an Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse as designated by the Oncology Nursing Credentialing Center. Sue has spent the majority of her nursing career in oncology, but also has experience in pain management and cardiology. She has taught oncology content and served as a preceptor for nursing students. She has also presented oncology-related topics in a 5-state region. Sue joined the Sanford Cancer Center - Oncology Clinic in 2005.

  

Tamara Fiegen Top, CNP



Tammi is originally from Dell Rapids, S.D. She graduated with a Masters of Science Degree in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2002. She is certified in by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is an Oncology Certified Nurse as designated by the Oncology Nursing Credentialing Center. She joined Sanford Cancer Center - Oncology Clinic in August of 2006, and worked as a nurse practitioner in oncology in the Sioux Falls area for several years prior. Her additional experience is in intensive care, cardiology and geriatrics, and she has done teaching for various nursing and nurse practitioner programs in the area. She is currently enrolled in the post-Masters program at the University of Nebraska in the acute oncology program to be completed in May of 2007.

Our highly skilled and caring oncology nurses provide both medication and compassion throughout every phase of your treatment. Please never hesitate to ask a question or express a concern. Our nurses want to know if something is causing you a problem or troubling you. They want to put their experience to work for your benefit.

LABORATORY TECHNOLOGISTS

Testing is done in our laboratory utilizing state-of-the-art equipment. Specially trained lab personnel perform the tests, and the results can be discussed with your physician during your visit.

PATIENT REPRESENTATIVES

We have insurance and reimbursement specialtists on our staff that will consult with you regarding payment plans, reimbursement, or any other financial concerns that you may have.

OUR PHARMACY TEAM

Our team of pharmacists and pharmacy techs provides expertise, knowledge, and skills in oncology/hematology therapeutics. They contribute to the interdisciplinary health care team offering patient specific therapeutic interventions to treat, heal and alleviate medical conditions unique to cancer patients. They provide educational information to patients and their families and actively participate in clinical research related to cancer and symptom management of cancer. Our team provides educational experience to interdisciplinary health care team members and provides clinical practice experience for area pharmacy college students.
